Afya Ngao is Swahili for “Health Shield”. Our goal is to protect the health of the people in Africa. Our mission is to transform preventative healthcare in Africa.

Afya Ngao Africa is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2024 with a focus on preventative healthcare for all, especially in Africa. In Africa, lifestyle diseases are on the rise, and are claiming more lives year after year, on par with common communicable diseases. The focus of many healthcare services in Africa has been on communicable diseases. There is a missing gap regarding preventative healthcare for non-communicable diseases, especially lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
The good news is that up to 80% of lifestyle diseases can be prevented!
The good news is that up to 80% of lifestyle diseases can be prevented! The bad news is that awareness levels are very low. For example, over 46% of diabetics in Africa are unaware of the disease!
Our organization is dedicated to raising awareness of lifestyle diseases, especially in Africa, where the impact of these conditions is often exacerbated by limited access to health information and resources. We believe that awareness is the crucial first step to prevention, empowering communities with knowledge to make healthier choices. To facilitate this, we offer free basic health screenings to everyone, helping individuals identify potential health risks early on. These screenings are not only an opportunity for individuals to understand their health better but also serve as a stepping stone for further education about nutrition, physical activity, and overall well-being. Through our initiatives, we aim to create a healthier future for African communities by addressing lifestyle diseases head-on and promoting proactive health management.
- Step 1: Free Screenings and health risk report
- Step 2: Free consultation with medical professional
- Step 3: Connection to resources to manage any conditions
Since 2014, we have offered free screenings and medical advice to over 250 people in Nairobi, Kenya. We hope to reach over 100,000 in the following year (2025), with the increasing number helping to spread awareness in their community.
